Cindy Levine opened Sweet Mandy B's in 2002, developing the first menu by baking test recipes in the lobby of her own high-rise apartment building and asking her neighbors for feedback before ever opening a storefront.

It's named after her own kids, Amanda and Brian — Sweet Mandy B's — and built its reputation on cupcakes and old-fashioned desserts meant to give neighborhood families a reason to gather. Tommy and Julie Wang took over from Levine in 2015 and still run it as a family business, having since opened a second Streeterville location in 2020.
