They started roasting right here in this Edgewater storefront and still own and run it today, even though the bulk of the roasting has since moved to an 18,000-square-foot facility in Avondale. What's left in the café is the part that made people love it in the first place: a big, sunlit room with a genuine community feel, a shelf of board games and a 'library' corner, rotating local art on the walls, and a staff that greets regulars by name -- 'welcome home' isn't a marketing line here, people report actually hearing it. It's a legitimately good place to camp out with a laptop for three hours, which is both the appeal and, on a Saturday afternoon, the occasional gripe (seats fill fast).

The coffee itself is the reason it's a Chicago Exclusive Gem: nationally award-winning, roasted less than a mile away, delivered fresh daily.
