Siblings Pete and Irene opened this in 2010 after roughly 25 combined years in the restaurant business, and Time Out immediately flagged the obvious comparison: Kogi, the LA food truck that basically invented the Korean taco and had already been written up by the New York Times months before Del Seoul even opened its doors.

That comparison could have sunk a lesser copy — instead, Time Out's own review concluded the tacos held up fine judged on their own merit. Soft corn tortillas get piled with soy-marinated short rib, gochujang-spiced pork, or panko-fried shrimp, dressed with a garlicky, chile-spiked slaw that leans the whole thing genuinely Korea-by-way-of-Mexico rather than just Mexican food with Korean seasoning dumped on top.

The kimchi fries — a tower of cheese fries, sour cream, pork belly, and kimchi "salsa" — became the dish that actually charts its own territory, distinct from the Kogi comparison entirely. Order at the counter, find a seat, and expect a real lunch rush of college kids and Lincoln Park Zoo visitors alike.
