The Chiu family, immigrants from Hong Kong, opened Chiu Quon Bakery in 1986 as Chinatown's first bakery, and it's still the neighborhood's oldest — founder Pui Yip Chiu's children Joyce and Matthew now run it, turning out more than 100 handmade Hong Kong-style pastries and savory baked goods daily, having survived both the 2009 recession and the pandemic.
