Super GemChicago Exclusive Gem$$Two sister locations (Superior Street, Belmont Avenue) have since closed; this Sheridan Road spot is the one still standing, and it's the original idea in its clearest form. The kimchi fries -- nacho cheese, smoked bacon, his mother's kimchi recipe, truffle oil -- and the kimchi burger, built around a fried egg and togarashi mayo, are what regulars order first; the bop menu, an updated bibimbap, is there for anyone who wants rice instead of a bun. It takes reservations, which is rarer than it should be for a menu at this price point, and there's outdoor seating when the weather allows it.
Tripadvisor and Yelp both land solidly positive -- nearly 1,000 reviews on Yelp alone. No happy hour or standing discount here, at least none either mentions; the draw is the menu, not a deal.
