Mike Jorndt opened Bitter Pops in 2016 as a craft beer bottle shop after 20 years in marketing, and opening chef Kevin McCormick didn't launch a full food program until May 2021 -- the place has genuinely evolved into three businesses in one room: a coffee bar in the morning, a 20-tap beer taproom and retail bottle shop by afternoon, and a smashburger kitchen that punches above its weight for a spot that started as a place to buy beer to go.

McCormick's spice bag -- a dish that's actually Irish-Chinese takeaway food, not a Bitter Pops invention, and one of the few authentic versions in the city -- tops fresh steak fries with Chinese five-spice, pickled Fresno peppers, Aleppo flakes, and garlic aioli. The double smash burger is the backup order that never disappoints if the spice bag doesn't sound like your thing.

Weekday happy hour runs 3-5PM Monday through Friday, 25% off all drafts -- a real, structured discount, not a vague 'ask about specials.' It's dog-friendly with a patio for warm-weather sitting, more neighborhood hangout than tourist stop, and there's no dedicated lot, just street parking along Lincoln and Paulina.
